Using a Brown Paper Bag to Pop Your Microwave Popcorn

I was perusing blogs this morning and ran across a stunning tip that I have never encountered before in my life. How have I been fooled all these years by microwave popcorn makers that I can only pop my popcorn in their special microwavable bags? According to Squawkfox, I can buy bulk kernels for a whopping $0.50/pound verses the $3.53/pound that I have been paying for the "microwaveable bag."

Now I have a new use for the brown paper bags I purchased at the dollar store.

Get all the details on popping in brown paper bags here.

Awesome! I've just learned there are bad chemicals in the prepackaged microwavable popcorn. I've been looking for an alternative to using an air popper.

Not only that, but those microwavable popcorn bags do not decompose very well and fill up landfills (according to the article). The brown paper bags can be thrown into your compost.
